Diabetic Education

Adults with Type 2 diabetes are two to four times more likely to have heart disease or a stroke than adults without diabetes. The American Heart Association considers diabetes to be one of the seven major controllable risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Diabetes nurse educators are trained to focus on helping diabetic patients achieve behavioural change through lifestyle modifications and cope with the daily demand of diabetes.

They also collaborate with other healthcare teams to enable patients receive individualised plan of care particularly those with complex issues, for better clinical outcomes.

In addition, they work with the hospital’s training department and external agencies to impart the importance of diabetes education and care to the patients, their caregivers and the public.
