Course objective

This course aims to provide opportunity for participants to adopt a problem-based and evidence-based approach to clinical patient care and patient education, develop the necessary knowledge, expertise, and practical skills to plan and coordinate complex patient care demands in the cardiac nursing setting whilst also developing a broad-based knowledge surrounding the scope of cardiac nursing practice.

Course content

  1. State the roles and responsibility of registered nurse in cardiac care and patient education
  2. Discuss the challenges in cardiac care (CVM, CTS, Cardiac rehabilitation)
  3. Apply problem-solving models to resolve clinical issues
  4. Describe the obstacles of patient education
  5. Synthesize the principles of pathophysiology, pharmacotherapy, health assessment data and medical management, to develop comprehensive nursing care plans for cardiac patients
  6. Apply the principles of teaching to develop learning plan for individualized patient family education
  7. Recognize inter-professional and inter-personal developments through reflection on acquired knowledge, skills and attitudes

Target audience

Registered Nurses with > 2 years of clinical experience.

Assessment

1. Group presentation and peer assessment
2. Teaching session assessment - practicum


Award certification

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded:

  • A certificate
  • 12 CPE points
