The Department of Cardiology at the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) comprises specialists of various cardiac clinical interests. It provides a broad range of services in the diagnosis and management of all types of heart diseases.
There are a total of 90 beds in the coronary care unit, intermediate care area, high dependency unit and general wards. The Department is supported by the cardiac investigative laboratories, nuclear cardiology laboratory, subspecialty clinics, physiotherapy and rehabilitation services.
Patients who are referred by their family physicians or polyclinics to NHCS for further management of their heart-related disease are generally seen at the specialist outpatient clinics. Those with life-threatening conditions such as heart attack are admitted to NHCS through the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department to receive prompt treatment. Our cardiologists will be activated to provide emergency angioplasty for these patients. Since 1999, NHCS has been providing 24-hour emergency coronary angioplasty service for the treatment of heart attack.
