Course objective
- Equip the Registered Nurses (exempt) with the theoretical framework to counseling
- Enable the nurses to apply the counseling skills to staff, patients and their families effectively using the problem-solving approach
Course content
- Define the term counseling
- List the aims of counseling
- Explain the counselor’s values and the therapeutics process
- Demonstrate the qualities of an effective counselor
- Participate in the explorations of self
- State the purpose of the professional need
- Recognize the areas of ethical difficulty in counseling practice
- Perform ethical decision by using the ethical decision making process
- Apply basic communication skills (interpersonal and listening) without referring to notes
- Demonstrate the counseling skills of verbal and non-verbal skills
- Identify the definition of intervention/ Integration skills
- Organize the counseling session using the counseling process
- Conduct basic counseling with a problem solving model
- Evaluate the counseling session by reflection
- State the definition of reluctance and resistance
- Recognize the reasons of reluctance and resisting
- Demonstrate the principles for managing reluctant and resistance clients using the productive approaches
