NHCS Heart To Heart Gala 2016

 

On 15 April 2016, NHCS held our second Heart To Heart Gala at Conrad Centennial Singapore, with our guest-of-honour, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs, gracing our event. 

The fundraising event raised over S$600,000 for the Heart To Heart Fund, which aims to support financially needy patients of NHCS and life-saving novel treatments for all patients. With heart disease being the largest contributor to the disease burden in Singapore, we also hope to channel the funds towards research in heart disease and the training of our healthcare professionals. 

In line with the theme ‘Gift of Life’, the 2016 gala was held with the hopes of introducing new treatments and embarking on promising research to improve our patients’ health and lives. Adjunct Professor Terrance Chua, Medical Director of NHCS shared numerous stories of patients who have benefitted directly from the Heart To Heart Fund; these patients received timely treatment and could thus continue living a near-normal life despite the severity of their heart conditions. He also shared about the generous donation of S$1 million by Dr Charles Toh and our establishment of the Charles Toh Cardiovascular Fellowship to drive our research and education initiatives. 

A variety of items were available at the signature fundraising auction including a private bonsai lesson, luxurious dining experiences and premium wines. More notably, the auction featured artworks from KY Huang and Kenneth Chen who are previous patients of NHCS. Local artist KY Huang offered to create a personalised ‘Tree of Life’ sculpture for the winning bidder while Mr Kenneth Chen donated Autumn in Fukuoka, an intricate painting which brings the classic reds and oranges of autumn leaves to life. 

The guests also enjoyed a tantalising meal designed specially by Conrad’s Executive Chef, David Laval paired with exquisite wine by Roderic Proniewski, Director and Wine Specialist of Asia Wine Network. The four-course meal featured premium ingredients and interactive segments, giving our guests a full sensory dining experience.
