Overseas Undergraduate Medical Students

Overseas Medical Student Elective Application

  • ALL overseas medical students are required to submit an elective application with the required documents on the NUS Website for any elective posting / attachment within the SGH Campus.
  • Eligibility of applicants and available postings at SGH are stated in the above-mentioned website: 
    • Applicants must be from an institution under the list of universities recognized by Singapore Medical Council (SMC): List of Registrable Basic Medical Qualifications.
    • Applicant must be a bona-fide medical student and in their clinical years during the clinical elective program at NHCS.
  • Please take note of the Application Timeline set by NUS – at least 6 months in advance from attachment start date. Postings are counted in weeks, commencing on a Monday, and ending on a Friday..

Clinical Electives

  • A minimum of two weeks to a maximum of four weeks will be required to complete the clinical curriculum, with each week starting on a Monday and ending on a Friday.

Research Elective

  • Students must be able to commit at least six weeks and beyond
  • Students will be notified via email on their placement status.
  • Students are required to submit a copy of the following documents to NHCS, Office of Training & Education at training.education@nhcs.com.sg
  1.     Latest Curriculum Vitae (PDF)
  2.     CITI Certification

Instructions to obtain CITI cert as follow:

  1. You may obtain the CITI cert from Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative website (Research, Ethics, Compliance, and Safety Training)
  2. Please create an account and key in Singapore Health Services Pte (SingHealth) as the affiliated organisation. Then, register as per normal.
  3. Please complete the module: Biomedical Research Investigators and Key Personnel
