Overseas Undergraduate Medical Students

All overseas students are required to submit a formal clinical or research elective application to Singapore General Hospital's Associate Dean's Office (SGH ADO). This is to be in compliance with the hospital's medical students' attachment procedures.

You may refer to the link here to find out the instructions on elective application and full details on the available postings in the hospital.

The elective application will be reviewed by SGH ADO and NHCS, and will be subjected to the availability of vacancies and supervision, with the approval from the NHCS Director, Medical Student Training.

Important

Please ensure that you have read and understood the requirements of the electives, in particular the following:

Clinical Electives

  • A minimum of three weeks to a maximum of four weeks will be required to complete the clinical curriculum, with each week starting on a Monday and ending on a Friday.

Research Elective

  • Students must be able to commit at least six weeks and beyond.
  • Please take note of the processing timeline in table below:

The IT and venue access application will take place upon receiving all required  documents & information

(Processing cut-off: 15th of the month)

RADO to be notified by:

Start Research Elective on:

01 Mar 2019


  • The research elective can be applied concurrently with the clinical electives at NHCS
  • Students are required to submit a copy of the following documents to NHCS, Office of Training & Education at training.education@nhcs.com.sg

CITI Certification:

Biomedical Research Investigators and Key Personnel. 


Instructions to obtain cert as follow:

  1. You may obtain the CITI cert from Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative website (www.citiprogram.org).
  2. Please create an account and key in Singapore Health Services Pte (SingHealth) as the affiliated organisation. Then, register as per normal.
  3. Please complete the module: Biomedical Research Investigators and Key Personnel

  • Students will be notified via email on their placement status.
