Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)

Synonym(s):

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery creates a new path for blood to go around a blocked or partially blocked artery in the heart. The surgery involves taking healthy blood vessels from the chest, forearm and leg area. The vessel is connected beyond the blockage in the heart artery. The new path improves blood flow to the heart muscle. It helps improve blood and oxygen supply to the heart and thus can improve patients’ symptoms, enhance quality of life and longevity.

Isolated CABG means that only a CABG surgery is performed on the patient without any other procedure. In 2023, NHCS had performed 756 isolated CABG surgeries. The mortality rate in 2023 was 0.66%.
