Airport:
Changi International Airport
Connectivity:
SIM Card can be purchase to use local data. It can be purchased at Changi Airport (from the Changi Recommends counters, currency exchange counters, and telco retail outlets), convenience stores islandwide (such as 7-Eleven and Cheers), and at the local telco stores (M1, Singtel and Starhub).
You will need to bring along your passport when purchasing a prepaid SIM card.WiFi Services is also available at the hotels and public hotspots (Wireless@SG).
Cuisine:
Diverse cuisine which contains elements from different ethnic groups like Chinese, Malay, Indian, Indonesian, and more.
Popular local dishes include – Chicken Rice, Bak Kut Teh, Carrot Cake, Chilli Crab, Laksa, Kaya Toast, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Goreng, Roti Prata.
Currency:
Singapore Dollar (SGD)
The Singapore dollar is used here and notes come in denominations of S$2, S$5, S$10, S$50, S$100, S$1,000 and S$10,000. Coins come in 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and S$1.
Money changing services and ATMs are widely available at many places such as Changi Airport, hotels, shopping centres, etc. VISA, MasterCard and American Express credit cards are also accepted.
Dialling Prefixes:
Singapore does not use area codes. To call a phone number within Singapore, simply dial the eight-digit contact number. To call a local number from outside the city-state, dial +65, followed by the eight-digit number.
Drinking Water:
You can drink water straight from the tap as the water in Singapore passes World Health Organization standards. You can also buy bottled water easily.
Electricity:
The standard electrical current used in Singapore is 220-240 volts AC (50 cycles) and you can use power plugs with three square prongs here.
Language:
The main language used in Singapore is English.
Most Singaporeans can speak an additional language: Mandarin Chinese, Malay or Tamil.
Transport:
There are several options when it comes to hailing down a cab in Singapore. You can queue up at taxi stands (found at most hotels, places of interest and shopping centres), call to book a taxi (Tel: 6342 5222), or book through a mobile app such as Grab or ComfortDelGro Taxi Booking.
Smoking:
Smoking is not allowed anywhere except in allocated smoking areas that are clearly marked with bright yellow paint.
Specifically, smoking is not allowed in air-conditioned areas, such as shopping centres, restaurants, entertainment outlets, MRT trains, public buses, taxis, lifts, public eateries and within a five-metre radius from most building entrances.
Tipping:
Tipping is not a common practice in Singapore, as a 10% service charge is typically included in the bill.
However, please feel free to leave a tip when experiencing good services.
