The HFpEF and Women’s Health Research Theme focuses on the condition of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) – the dominant form of heart failure in ageing societies and one of the largest unmet needs in cardiovascular medicine today. The primary aims are to better understand the pathophysiology of HFpEF, particularly the predisposition of women to this condition, and to identify novel therapeutic targets. These aims are achieved by studying large patient cohorts in close collaboration with NHRIS research cores (e.g. advanced imaging, hemodynamics, clinical trials) as well as national (e.g. Singapore Bioimaging Consortium, Genome Institute of Singapore) and international institutions.
The Asian Sudden Cardiac Death in Heart Failure (ASIAN-HF) study cohort was started in 2012 to gather real world data on the demographics and risk factors of heart failure patients from 11 Asian regions: China, India, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Recruitment of the targeted 5000 patients was completed in December 2015, and late-breaking findings were presented at the European Society of Cardiology Heart Failure Congress held in Florence, Italy on 23 May 2016.
The CVCT-DMC provides full analytical services and secure management and storage for multiple large-scale cardiovascular clinical trials and registries. Our expertise is in multinational cardiovascular and cardiometabolic real world registries and trials, both investigator-led and industry led, including:
Asian Sudden Cardiac Death in Heart Failure (ASIAN-HF) registry – Investigator led multinational prospective registry (N~8,000 from 11 regions in Asia including Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines).
Combined study (N~12.000 subjects) of ASIAN-HF together with the BIOlogy Study to TAilored Treatment in Chronic Heart Failure (BIOSTAT-CHF) study. BIOSTAT-CHF is a European multicenter, multinational prospective observation study (N~4,000) with data from 11 European countries.
Combined study (N~7,000 subjects) of ASIAN-HF with Heart Failure: A Controlled Trial Investigating Outcomes of Exercise Training (HF-ACTION). HF-ACTION is a prospective multicenter, multinational randomized trial performed in the United States, Canada and France.
The CVCT-DMC at NHCS is led by Dr Jasper Tromp, Dr Wouter Ouwerkerk, Ms Wan Ting Tay, Ms Nurul Sahiddah and Professor Carolyn Lam. The team is experienced in managing and analyzing large databases (N~4000-40,000) and high-dimensional data. The CVCT-DMC has led and supported several high-profile publications published in top-tier journal including Lancet: Global Health, Circulation, European Heart Journal, Journal of the American College of Cardiology and PLOS medicine.
