Edmund graduated with a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences majoring in Genetics at University of Adelaide and further studied at Queensland University of Technology to receive a Bachelor of Applied Science (Second Upper class Honours).

At National Heart Research Institution Singapore (NHRIS), he study inherited cardiac conditions (ICCs) using next generation sequencing (NGS) approach. In collaboration with researchers from Royal Brompton Hospital London, they developed a new test to diagnose all known ICCs including cardiomyopathies, familial hypercholesterolemia and prevent sudden cardiac death. This new panel serves as an accurate tool in identifying the causative pathogenic variants behind each ICC in clinical settings as well as research, particularly in generating a cardiac disease database for Singapore population. Additionally, his research counterparts also focus on the translatomics of ICC to reveal novel regulatory targets, translation patterns and mechanisms using mRNA sequencing, small RNA sequencing, ChIPSeq and ribosomal profiling.

With support from National Medical Research Council and National Heart Centre Singapore, he has set up a biospecimen & DNA core facility at NHRIS that stores thousands of blood samples, donated by patients with cardiac diseases. Automated high throughput equipment and databases have been implemented in this facility to collect, process, store, maintain and trace anonymized biospecimens and clinical data that can be accessed by researchers to increase the efficiency of cardiovascular research.
