Profile

Dr Yeo Joo Guan is a Senior Consultant in Paediatric Medicine in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He earned his M.B., B.S. and Masters of Medicine (Paediatric Medicine) from the National University of Singapore (NUS). During his advanced speciality training, he obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Microbiology, Immunology programme, NUS, on the role of serine protease C1s in lupus pathogenesis supported by the Ministry of Health's Healthcare Research Scholarship in 2014.

Following the completion of his advanced speciality training in 2015, he was mentored by Professor Salvatore Albani (SingHealth Translational Immunology and Inflammation Centre) with the support of Academic Medicine Research Institute's Khoo Clinical Scholar Program for 1 year, working on the holistic, multi-dimensional interrogation of the immunome of childhood onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus with the dual translational goals of identifying predictors of clinical fate and novel therapeutic targets for manipulation. The pilot results from this study has resulted in the successful application for the National Medical Research Council's Transition Award during the November 2016 grants call with the project entitled: "Interrogation of Childhood Onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Immunome for the Elucidation of Disease."

Research Interests

  • Cellular and molecular immunology.
  • Role of B regulatory cells in childhood onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and its translational potential as a form of cell therapy.
  • Development of a healthy paediatric immune cell atlas, using different multi-dimensional platforms such as mass cytometry and single cell RNA sequencing, for the comprehensive description of the developing immunome in a clinically and functionally relevant manner.
  • Applying the multi-dimensional approach to different paediatric diseases with an immunological component through the integration of different high throughput ‘omics’ platforms for the elucidation of the underlying disease mechanism.
