Deputy Director, Nursing (APN), SGHWHAT IS OUT THERE, BEYOND THE HOSPITAL WALLS?
The proposed 'agenda for action' for addressing health inequalities includes strengthening individuals, strengthening communities, improving access to essential facilities and services; and encouraging macroeconomics and cultural change. How do we then adopt this into our current practice? This session will give a glimpse of the residents' profiles and stories we encounter in the community and how it affects the way we deliver care.
Senior Consultant, Division of Medical Oncology, NCCSDOES INEQUALITY MATTER?
Inequalities conspicuously abound, but how and why, exactly, do they matter? Is inequality the inescapable consequence of a free and meritocratic society, or a fundamental societal malady we must strive our utmost to remedy? Should we focus on giving a leg up to the underprivileged without constraining the rich and successful, or is the wide (and widening) gap between the haves and have-nots in and of itself a principal source of concern? In this talk, I will attempt to provide a conceptual framework to approach the discourse around inequality. In particular, I will explore how some of these ideas influence our approach to population and individual health in Singapore, including the health of migrant workers.
