Course objective

  1. Equip the nurses with the knowledge and skills in preceptoring the trainees, newly recruited nurses and nursing students
  2. Enable the nurses to demonstrates the ability to use the On-the-Job Training (OJT) design framework

Course content

  1. Identify the roles and responsibilities of a preceptor.
  2. Describe how to apply the principles of adult learning as preceptor
  3. Demonstrate how to assist preceptees in identifying their learning needs
  4. Demonstrate how to work with preceptees in planning learning experiences
  5. Demonstrate how to implement learning plans with a preceptee
  6. Practice the One-minute preceptor model of effective clinical teaching learning
  7. Demonstrate constructively evaluation of a preceptee’s learning performance
  8. Demonstrate techniques to resolve potential preceptorship problems
  9. Outline the concept of OJT
  10. Demonstrate the use of OJT design framework
     
    • Identify jobs for OJT
    • Conduct task analysis
    • Set task standards
    • Identify skills and knowledge
    • Set training guidelines
    • Identify trainee needs
    • Schedule training
    • Prepare to coach
    • Coaching the trainee
    • Evaluate and review OJT
