Geriatric Nursing Course for Cardiac Nurses

Course objective

This programme aims to equip the Registered Nurses & Enrolled Nurses with the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes required to care for the elderly.

Course content

  1. The impact of the aging population on healthcare
  2. Effects of aging on the body systems
  3. Heart failure in the elderly 
  4. Clinical management of diabetes in the elderly (Type 2 DM)
  5. Nutrition and aging
  6. Urinary incontinence in the elderly
  7. Musculoskeletal changes: Impact on fall risks and rehabilitation in the elderly
  8. Medication management in the elderly
  9. The aging skin: Pressure injuries & skin tears in the elderly
  10. Continuum of care for the elderly - Discharge planning & community resources
  11. Psychosocial aspects of ageing
