Advanced Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiothoracic Surgery Nursing Attachment Programme

Training outcomes

This programme aims to provide participants with a learning environment, to understand the holistic approach in the total care of patients, in Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiothoracic Surgery and a comprehensive programme to understand the professional practice of Nursing in NHCS.

Training outline

  • Pathophysiology related to cardiovascular and cardiothoracic problems.
  • Medical and surgical management of cardiac and thoracic patients.
  • Preparation and care of patients undergoing various interventional cardiology procedures e.g. Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA), Electro-Physiology Studies (EPS) etc.
  • Management of cardiac emergencies.
  • Health education programmes for patients and their family.
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit Programme.
  • Infection Control Principles and Practices in NHCS.

Duration

3 to 4 months

Criteria

  • Registered Nurses with clinical experience in managing patients with cardiac and pulmonary disorders, ventilators and cardiac monitoring equipment.
  • Currently working in a Cardiovascular or Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit.
