HEART VALVE SURGERY

Heart valve surgery is a procedure used to repair or replace diseased heart valves. There are two types of aortic valve surgery: aortic valve repair and aortic valve replacement.

NHCS performed 117 isolated valve surgeries in 2009 with a mortality rate of 4.27%. The mean mortality over the period of 2004 to 2009 was 3.19%; Europe had a mean mortality of 3.40% from 2006 to 2008.

Definition: 30 days mortality refers to those patients who died within 30 days of their first operative date (in-hospital or after discharge). The above data applied to residents only.
