CORONARY ARTERY BYPASS GRAFT (CABG)

CABG is a surgical procedure in which one or more blocked coronary arteries are bypassed
by a blood vessel graft to restore normal blood flow to the heart.

Isolated CABG is defined as CABG surgery performed on a patient without any other
procedure. In 2009, NHCS performed 629 isolated CABG surgeries with a mortality rate of
1.59%.

The mortality over the period of 2004 to 2009 was 1.79% in NHCS; Europe had a mean
mortality of 2.24% from 2006 to 2008 and USA (New York State) had a mean mortality of
1.95% in 2007.

Definition: 30 days mortality refers to those patients who died within 30 days of their first operative date (in-hospital or after discharge). The above data applied to residents only.
