To provide a learning environment, for the trainee to understand the holistic approach in the total care of patients, in the Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiothoracic Surgery Units.

To provide a comprehensive programme for trainees to understand the professional practice of Nursing in NHCS.

To provide a programme for trainees to meet their training objectives.
Contents
-
Discuss the organisational structure, functions, philosophy and objectives of National Heart Centre Singapore(NHCS).
-
Provide orientation to the facilities and set-up in NHCS.
-
Discuss the Nurses' roles and responsibilities and observe the practice of Nursing in NHCS.
-
Discuss the pathophysiology related to cardiovascular and cardiothoracic problems.
-
Discuss and observe the medical and surgical management of cardiac and thoracic patients.
-
Discuss and observe the preparation and care of patients undergoing various interventional cardiology procedures e.g. Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA), Electro- Physiology Studies (EPS) etc.

Discuss the management of cardiac emergencies.

Discuss the fundamentals of ECG interpretation and management of arrhythmias.

Discuss the pre-operative and post-operative management of patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery.

Discuss the health education programmes for patients and their family.

Discuss the pharmacological implications for patient with altered cardiovascular functions.

Discuss haemodynamics and cardiovascular monitoring.

Discuss cardiac and ventilatory support.

Discuss Cardiovascular Rehabilitation programme.

Discuss Infection Control Principles and Practices in NHCS.
Criteria
-
Registered Nurses with clinical experience in managing patients with cardiac and pulmonary disorders, ventilators and cardiac monitoring equipment.
-
Currently working in a Cardiovascular or Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit.
