Quicker, cheaper transplants (Today, 13 December 2008)
The National Cardiovascular Homograft Bank (NCHB), established in February by the National Heart Centre Singapore, stores human heart valves and trachea tissue. By drawing from a local supply of heart valves, patients not only get timely treatment but also pay about $2,000 to $3,000 less.

Tissue bank seeks donors (The Straits Times, 13 December 2008)

TEN months after its doors opened, the National Cardiovascular Homograft Bank (NCHB), a tissue bank that stores parts of the human heart destined for transplant, is seeking more donors.

Established by the National Heart Centre Singapore in February 2008, NCHB has received eight tissue grafts, such as heart valves and the main artery of the heart & hopes to build up a bank of at least 20 heart valves.

Bigger heart centre in the works (The Straits Times, 8 October 2008)
NHCS shared details of its new building plans in an interview with the Straits Times. The new heart centre expected by 2012, will be three times its current size. New facilities such as areas for day surgery and pre-admission testing for patients are planned. It will also have state-of-the-art equipment so that doctors can get more accurate picture of patient's problems and rooms for clinical trials and patient-oriented research which is in line with Singapore's push to get more early clinical trials done here.

Look, there's no 'zipper' scar, thanks to robot surgery (The Straits Times, 29 March 2008)
RETIRED teacher Dudley Dragon had a heart bypass last July, but you would not know it from looking at his chest. Instead of the long 'zipper' scar that marks out heart bypass survivors, all he has are two 2cm long scars and a 5cm long one. His surgeons at the National Heart Centre (NHC) used a robot to perform minimally invasive 'keyhole' surgery.
